After the success of last years ski trip, my first in six years, it didn't take me long to sign up again. I took two weeks work as a rep, the first of which was in Claviere.

I've had a lot less practice packing for ski trips than bike tours, and equally little practice packing bags for an airport. I don't fly very often. As such I was packed and ready to go the day before I left. I wanted to get to the airport with plenty of time to spare and arrived at my local train station so early the waiting room wasn't even open! My flight was an early one and amazingly ran on time. I was in Turin in time for a bit of lunch before a bus, followed by a train, and finally a taxi got me into Claviere mid afternoon.

Claviere is a small resort in the Italian Alps, but as part of the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area it offers access to over 400km of superb skiing, for the non skiers amongst us, that's a lot! I wouldn't recommend it if you like your Après-ski but for the school group I was welcoming it's ideal with plenty of slopes and a good mix for beginner's progression.

After a couple of days 'working' (I use the term loosely) I managed to get out skiing for the rest of the week, whilst keeping on top of my reps duties in the mornings and evenings. The slopes were quiet, the snow was some of the best I have ever skied on and other than the odd cloudy day the weather was fantastic! I could freely ski from Italy into France and back, I've ridden across borders plenty of times but being able to literally step across one really brings home how lucky we are in Europe.

A view of the Italian mountains in Claviere, Italy
This is the view that greeted me as I got of the lift on my first day!

I hope you enjoy my pictures! A very different look to the mountains compared to my summer trips on a bike, but every bit as spectacular in my opinion.
